A Question for Ludwik
Dick has done so many flashlights that he's lost count. We need Ludwik Trammer for the statistics.
Home Office Relocated
Previously Leo settled on Pickles Gap, Arkansas (not Carbuncle Falls) in Episode 831 as the location for the TWiT Home Office. Other suggestions have been floated, including Sioux City in Iowa, Lake Rogerene in New Jersey, Susquehanna in Pennsylvania (Episode 830), and Truth Or Consequences in Mexico (Episode 832).
Listeners (Mark, a brewer; Jeff from Pittsburgh; Joe aka Toyota Boy, Paul Griswold, and Denny Pyott) have come up with the following suggestions: Boring in Oregon; Cheesequake in New Jersey; Blue Ball or Intercourse, both in Pennsylvania; Lake In The Hills in Illinois; French Lick or Gas City in Indiana.
Dick and Leo have now relocated the Home Office to Cheesequake, New Jersey. Pickles Gap, Arkansas is now TWiT's Satellite Office.
InsideDGW
Dick reminds listeners that they can now read Alfred's posts on GizWiz.Biz as well.
"The Crap Goes In ...
... before the name goes out", that's DGW's new slogan. There shouldn't be any cease-and-desist letters from Zenith.

Gadget Years
Dick and Leo have talked about their time unit for gadgets called Gadget Year, although they can never remember how long it's supposed to be. When they first talked about the Audrey in Episode 120, they thought that a gadget year should be worth 25 human years.
Visible Man-Made Structure
In Episode 818, Leo talked about the Great Wall of China, and referred to the oft-repeated piece of trivia that it is the only man-made structure visible from space. Doug Snell, who by the way thinks the quality of the jingles brings the quality of the Daily Giz Wiz up to just acceptable, wants to debunk the myth. First of all, it's not just one wall, but a series of walls. Secondly It's simply not true. Depending on what one means by space, the Great Wall is either invisible to the naked eye, or one of many other objects visible to the naked eye. Check out space.com, and snopes.com for more debunking.
Connection Issue
Dick's internet connections (both on Verizon and A T & T) were suffering badly during this recording session. There was a huge amount of latency and in the end, they had to give up on Dick's video.

A Spare Letter from Leo?
Not only did Leo have a spare gadget yesterday, but today he has a spare letter to read, except he doesn't have the letter at hand. But of course the amazing Dick DeBartolo has it ready.
Family Bonds
James Taylor was going on the road with his financee Cheryl for an 8-hour drive from Richmond, Virginia to his home State, the Catskills region in New York. He had a large collection of DGW episodes to play (another DGW marathon). He was worried that it would drive his fiancee insane, but by the end of the journey, the two of them were singing the jingles together. "The jingles bring them in, but it's the gadgets that keep them coming back."
James started watching Leo on ZDTV, even cried over the last episode of Call For Help. He owes it to Leo who has inspired him and his father to embark on the IT road, while he owes it to Dick who has enticed them to fill their homes with clutter.
And James inspires Leo to sing "You've Got A Friend", a reprise of Leo's performance in Episode 33.

Pay Cheque
Dick got his first pay cheque for 18 months, and decided to treat himself to Verizon Business DSL. His video stream should look pretty good now, especially after Pat Grosswendt of Litepanels (Episode 562) sent Dick some LED lighting.
More from Leo
Leo can't find enough to do, and has set up an audio server for TWiT which provides audio streaming of TWiTLive (which is either live or pre-recorded, depending on the time of day). It's just like internet radio, and you can get the stream on twit.am. You can catch it on your computer, iPhone or PSP. In the meantime, Leo is getting Tony Wang to set up video podcasts, and the Daily Giz Wiz will be one of the video programmes.
Six Packs and Kegs
While Leo may not have six-pack abs, he can boast about his beer-keg abs.
It's Not A Death Trap
Jeff Pacitto from Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada suggests that Leo make a quick trip to Toronto to visit Amber, buy a Smart Car from one of the dealers in Canada, and have it shipped to California. Since Leo made his $99 reservation for a Smart Car (Episodes 661, 666, 667), he has received a lot of emails either singing its praises or denouncing it as a death trap. There goes the Smart Car sponsorship. "It's not a death trap!" Dick and Leo quickly add.

A Bit of Client Schmoozing
Leo was off to Los Angeles last Tuesday for some "client schmoozing".
A Visa Jingle
Geoff Smith, who did the Audible Pick of the Week jingle (Episode 560) and the I'm A TWiT jingle, has done a jingle for the Visa commercial, which Leo has been playing in last week's podcasts.
Living for TWiT
Brady Redfean finds himself arranging his life around TWiT's podcasts. He stays up late to do his homework so he can listen to DGW when it comes out, especially during exam time, in order to stay sane. "We lose our sanity so you can gain yours," say Dick and Leo. He postpones dates (his wife doesn't know) if there's a podcast coming out. He doesn't take his vacation until the TWiTs take theirs. And Dick says no to Twitties Anonymous, unless it's a restaurant that serves Totino pizza rolls.
Look Humble
Whoever gave Leo the "Look Humble" needlepoint knows Leo well. She understands that for Leo, "Be Humble" is an unattainable goal, and "Look Humble" is a more practical compromise.

Happy Birthday
... to Henry Laporte who turns 14 today. Dick wonders what Henry is getting for his birthday, which explains his expressionless face resembling those depicted in Grant Wood's painting American Gothic. Henry is getting, with the help of Colleen, a skateboard made of aircraft aluminium, and Corinthian leather, just like the Chrysler Cordova, as advertised by Ricardo Montalban.
A Family Affair
The Epistle of the Day is from Brian Drake again, of Gallatin, Tennessee. Jennifer Laporte thinks the slogan "The worse your life is, the better we sound" terrible. Since she is a mental health professional, she should start treating listeners of DGW.

The Few, The Proud, the Depressed
Leo's wife Jennifer doesn't like the slogan "The worse your life is, the better we sound". She doesn't understand that the Daily Giz Wiz is made for the few, the proud, the depressed.
For the origin of the slogan, listen to the last few minutes of Episode 391, the letters section.
At Two With Nature
During his summer break at the Gray Eagle Lodge at 6,000 feet altitude, there were no internet access, no cellphone access, no subway, no buses, no Starbucks, and what's more, no oxygen, which gives Leo a headache. There were board games with missing pieces, and crushed ping pong balls. A great holiday then.
Dane in New York
Dane Golden visited Dick in New York and was given a tour of the Mad Office. He also treated Dick and his friend Dennis to lunch which Leo kindly offered to pay with the TWiT credit card (Visa of course), with a cap of $20 for 3.
Sucker City
Mad did a spoof of a Circuit City ad and called it Sucker City. An employee at Circuit City did not like the parody and decided to pull Mad off the shelves at some of the outlets. The PR found out about the bruhaha and wrote an interesting letter of apology to Mad, offering a Powerpoint presentation of at least 300 pages and a Circuit City gift card of $20 towards the purchase of a Nintendo Wii, if Mad could find one. The letter is reproduced on Dick's home page.
For some interesting reactions by people or names who have been spoofed by Mad, see Episode 74 and Episode 426.
Making Noises
Randal Schwartz's story of party lines and modems (Episode 623) has prompted a letter from a New Zealand listener David McLoughlin, who drew our attention to a 56K Modem Emulator at LazyLaces.com. If you miss that familiar dialing tone, you can click "Connect" on that page to listen to it again.

Ludwik Trammer comes to Leo's rescue by sending him an email. Ludwik has helped some listeners download old episodes of DGW, without having to click on every single link, or putting in the correct links (see Episode 613). However, it doesn involve installing a download manager, and the downloaded files do not show up as podcasts in iTunes. Another listener Larry Hudson has come up with the idea of an RSS Feed for all episodes of DGW, and Ludwik has executed the idea. Go to his Tools section on GizWizSearch for the "Download Old Shows" Feed, or directly to the Feedburner page. Subscribe to it via iTunes.
Dick used to think Ludwik is 14. Now Dick has got a little closer and thinks he's 19. For all the wonders Ludwik has done for DGW, go to GizWizSearch.

Eye Fi Explore
Wireless SD Card with Geotagging
Link: Eye-Fi
The makers of the Eye-Fi Wirelss SD Card (Episode 441) have updated their product. Apart from bumping up the capacity to 2GB (with the same wireless connectivity and uploading capability), the new Eye-Fi Explore adds geotagging to your photos by noting the locations of the wifi hotspots or networks which have been mapped by Skyhook Wireless using its Wifi Positioning System that currently covers 70% of the population in North America, the top 50 metropolitan areas in Europe (and 70% of the population in the UK, France and Germany) and is seeking to expand its coverage into Asia. Skyhook is the same company used by the iPhone Edge (which does not have built-in GPS) for its location-awareness feature.
In addition to the Skyhook geotagging service, it also comes with one year's free Wayport Hotspot access, which has over 10,000 hotspots in the US, renewable for $19 a year.
Its webshare feature now includes many popular photo sharing and printing sites, social networking sites and blogging sites, such as Flickr, SmugMug, Picassa, PhotoBucket, FaceBook, Vox, TypePad and even Wal-Mart.
The Spork Makes it to the Big Screen
Neil Chitel reports that the Spork has made it to Hollywood, in the latest Disney Pixar film Wall-E. Leo suspects the Toothpick Bird will appear in the sequel.
TWiT Cottage Slogan
The slogan around the TWiT Cottage is "Feeling down, feeling depressed? Get the hell out of my sight." No State or Federal Labour Law applies in the Duchy of TWiTdom. The future looks grim for Dane and Colleen.

It's A Gas
Dick has sent Leo a link, discovered by listener James Baldwin, to the Mad "It's A Gas" Recording on YouTube, but Leo has failed Dick again. To listen to the recording, go to Dick's home page, or the blog post for Episode 568.
Keeping a Land Line
Bob Harris, who previously wrote in Episode 512, suggests an alternative to keeping a land line, in response to Dick and Leo's discussion in Episode 562. For those who have phones which need to be electrically plugged in, they can use an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
