The Dark Secrets of the Laporte Household Revealed
Leo reveals that Jennifer looks to other studs to satisfy some of her needs, and is into Rent-A-Husband and Buffalo Bill - only for home maintenenace, because Leo is not much of a handyman outside the computer sphere or routing the home network, such as fixing the bannister.
Airport Comforts
Mark Donato lets Leo know that he was not dreaming when he thought that there were some rocking chairs at some airport in the States, in Episode 802. The airport at Charlotte, North Carolina is one, where you can find rocking chairs between the B and C Concourse.
A Request for TTTT
Loyal listener Shane Shellenbarger has a request for Leo. He wonders if he will be reviewing the Amazon Kindle DX.

3rd Anniversary
The time was 20 February 2006, and Dick and Leo released the world's first podcast by a man with a big moustache talking to another man on the other coast not yet seated on a blue ball: Episode 1 of the Daily Giz Wiz, Docupen.
Three years on, the big moustache is bushier, the other man is seated on a blue ball, the show is fully jinglified, the contents are searchable, and the podcast is marching towards Episode 1000, when Leo will have to devise a new naming system for the podcast's download files. Currently it's only got 3 digits for the episode number.
OEM Betamax
Dick and Leo talked about the Sony Betamax SL-7200 (and the BetaStack) in Episode 30. The Betamax may seem antique, but the CV-2000 is ancient. Dick also saw a Zenith Betamax which looked rather similar to the Sony, and discovered to his amazement that it was indeed made by Sony.
Autographed Mad: A Christmas Surprise
Marie Kovar received from her husband a copy of Mad Magazine autographed by Dick, a photo of the Giz Wiz, and some GizWizBiz gadgets, for Christmas 2008. Marie thanks Dick for contributing to her great Christmas surprise and wishes Dick and Leo and their families happiness and good health in 2009.
Valentine Gifts
Picture this. It's Valentine's Day and Leo had against his better judgement polished off all the chocolate-coated, sea-salt-dusted caramels before they reached Jennifer. Leo said to Jennifer, "Honey, our love is like this GizWizBiz ice-cube. It can't melt, because it's durable like our relationship." A kick in the groin later, Leo tried again, "Honey, our love is like this GeoBulb. It will shine forever, or 10 years, whichever comes first." Another kick in the groin later, Leo said, "Honey, I'm seeing stars."
Listening to the Stars
The time was 22 February 1892, and it was the premiere of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan. Lord Darlington, a charcter in the play, spoke his line, "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."
The time was 9 February 2009, and Dick and Leo were recording the show. Dick asked Leo to say something clever to end the show. Leo obliged. "I may be lying in the gutter, but at least I'm looking at the stars."
The time is 20 February 2009, and it's the 3rd Anniversary of the Daily Giz Wiz. We may be in the gutter, but at least we're listening to the stars.

Post-770 Chat
Dick and Leo have a chat after the recording session, and they are joined by Dane Golden. They talk about the anniversary, the film Gaslight, Match Game, Gene Rayburn's mic, the Match Game theme Swingin' Safari (see also Episode 584), and much more. Watch the video.

Widescreen LCD Monitor

The slightly older model is w2408. The technical specifications appear to be the same, except for (1) input supports for VGA and DVI-D, not HDMI (but HDCP-compliant too); and (2) a lower contrast ratio of 1000:1.
Manual for TWiT Cottage Etiquette
Dane Golden has sent Dick a TWiT Cottage Welcome Pack, with clear instructions for etiquette at the TWiT Cottage. Call Leo Mr Laporte; never get closer to him than 3 feet; don't sit higher than him; always reach for the bill; no eye contact; never turn your back on Leo - leave the room facing him bowing and scraping. Look humble.
GizWizLive Available for Download?
William Lawrence goes back to the old episodes, starting with Episode 1, and it keeps getting better. He is delighted to hear that Dick will be appearing on TWiTLive on 20 June but is horified to learn that he will be away on a beach without internet access. Will there be a download for GizWizLive, the gadget event of the millennium? Leo thinks he might be able to record the show.

Criswell Poeticises
The Daily Giz Wiz has turned Criswell lyrical. He/She has written a GizWiz Nursery Rhyme:
Tuesday's GizWiz is full of crap, you'll see.
Wednesday has a no-theme meme.
But oh, poor Thursday truly has no theme.
And the GizWiz we hear on the Friday day
Is a trip to Dick's Warehouse where he takes them out to play.
Coming this Friday on TWiTLive
On the first day of summer, 20 June 2008, Dick will appear on TWiTLive to show some of Wild Planet gadgets, and spend an unspecified amount of time with Leo, including special programming for TWiTLive.
Special Appearance
Leo's wife Jennifer sensibly refuses to appear on camera during the recording of the show, but their puppy Ozzy makes a special appearance. Here's a photo of Ozzy. For Ozzy's story, listen to the Letters Section in Episode 353.
Jingle Singers Video: Coming Soon
Dick and Leo refer to a new video of the Jingle Singers performing the Letters Jingle. Leo has misplaced Dick's email for the time being. Keep listening. And Leo will be here.

It's not a juicer. What a shocker! It's a Roller Drying Cup.
Dick's Radio Studio
As a child, Dick built his own radio studio which broadcast on to the front lawn, and played pranks among the hedges. That's the budding entertainer at work.
Seinfeld's Soup Nazi
No one at Mad dared go and buy soups at The Original Soup Man because his reputation preceded him.
Rowing with Audible
Leo gives more details about his podcasting plans with female rower Roz Savage who is going to try to be the first woman to row solo across the Pacific.
Video or Audio
Brian Taylor from Walnut, California is in a dilemma. He watched the streaming video of Dick and Leo recording the show. Now he has nothing to listen to for the next week. He suggests they do 2 sets of episodes, one on video, and one just with the audio.
Twitter Again
Leo wants to know if the SoupySales on Twitter, who is profane and very funny, is the Soupy Sales. Dick is now on Twitter as well. Follow him at thegizwiz on Twitter, or follow Alfred E Neuman on Twitter.

Long-time listener Opher Banarie from Laguna Niguel suggests another name for Dick's dog Fairway: Dick DeBarkolo.
All About Australia
Claudio Quaresma from Brazil notes that Leo has been touting his photo safari trip to Tasmania. He has heard about the Australian Government's Internet Filter Experiment, and wonders if the two events are related. Your fans demand to know, says Claudio. Leo explains that it was the Australian Government's attempt to offer free content filter for all of Australia, but within 30 minutes, the filter was hacked by a 16-year-old. Probably Ludwik, who to Dick, has finally graduated to all of 16 years, since he was 15 last year. The filter was an unmitigated waste of 85 million Roos.
Save the Tasmanian Devil
The Tasmanian devil, an animal unique to Tasmania, is a scavenger which causes no harm to humans and other animals. They have been plagued by a contagious cancer and if nothing is done for them, they may die out soon. Leo and the photographers on the Lightroom Adventure 2 trip raised $7,000 for the Save the Tasmanian Devil movement by selling some of their photographic prints.
The Wombat
Leo was much taken by the wombat, an Australian marsupial. For a shot of Leo falling for a wombat (and one of the slang phrases he picked up in Tassie), go to his blog at Leoville. For photos taken by Leo on his recent trip, go to his Smugmug page, or his Flickr page.

Neuros OSD Media Centre
Video Recorder/Converter
Link: Neuros
It makes use of the analogue hole to transfer the input video into digital form, on to your choice of external storage (such as a USB hdd, flash drive, memory cards or NAS). Hook up the Neuros OSD between your video source and the TV (using RCA jacks), connect your storage to the Neuros OSD, and start recording into MPEG4. You have a choice of 2 resolutions: 320x240 at 30fps for playback on portable devices, and 640x480 at 30fps for playback on TV and PC.
It is also a very capable playback device for audio, video and still photo, supporting many media formats, including mpeg4, mov, wmv, flv, avi (including Dvix and Xvid), mp3, ogg vorbis, wma, flac, jpg, bmp and gif. You can choose your playback source from an USB-connected storage, or any memory card in the built-in card reader (supporting most major memory cards), or from any networked source via the ethernet port (such as your NAS or even the internet).
Its firmware is upgradable, and the software includes built-in automatic software update capability. Because the device is based on open source software, Neuros also encourages open development of additional features for the OSD. Comes with a remote control, an IR Blaster, and RCA cables (European models include SCART adapters).
Automatic Podcast Generator
Dick and Leo lament the missed opportunity of getting a push-button automatic podcast generator, while Leo was away in Tasmania, from Ludwik Trammer, DGW's official statistician, database compiler, RSS feeder, general factotum and all-round nice guy.
Missing Feature
Girl Geek Myra Joyce (who wrote in in Episode 495) referred to the letter read in Episode 526 about the Canon Pixma iP4300. To her disappointment, the CD-label printing capability is enabled only in models shipped outside of the US (which could be enabled for US models but only with some dismantling and reassembly of the printer).
The Ultimate Toaster
Leo has come up with an idea for the ultimate toaster. It can print any image you want on your toast. A toast before it's even made and one destined for the Gadget Warehouse.

What's In The Box?
This is another DGW episode in which Dick opens a gadget parcel while recording the show, as in Episode 379 (Cardiochek).. Dick wishes he had the Zibra OpenIt (Episode 496) with him, as the Energy Station is blister-packed. Both occasions nearly drew blood from Dick.
Digital Picture Frame for a Venerable 103-Year-Old
Rick McCormack from Lopez Island Pharmacy heard Episode 504 on Valentine's Day about the Coby Digital Photo Frame, which prompted him to write about a Ceiva picture frame which he has given to 2 elderly relatives, one of whom is 103 years old. It hooks up to the internet and he can administer the frame over the internet via a phone line, change the settings etc without intervention from the user. It does require a subscription, and Leo knows of a company called Digital Spectrum Solutions which makes digital photo frames which you can administer via the internet without a subscription fee, a Chris Pirillo recommendation.

Cool Gadgets
Cool B, whose previous letter was read back in Episode 195, recently bought the Scottevest-made TWiT fleece and travelled in it on a cruise to Italy, Spain and Portugal. He was warned about pickpockets and Cool B kept all his stuff in his inner pockets. He also took along his USB Cells (Episode 186) and a Power Squid (Episode 24).
GizWizBiz USB Smart Button
Leo got to know an AmTrak agent in Providence whose husband listens to DGW. She had heard from her husband that Leo was going to take the Acela from New York to Providence (check out Episodes 234, 238 and 255), and she met Leo as he got off the train (around this time last year). She was recently at MacWorld Expo 2008 where she met Leo again, and she wanted Dick to know that the USB Smart Button which she's bought is Mac-compatible. There are only about 6 of those Buttons left, while the new GizWizBiz Caps are going really fast.
