The High Line Park
When Dick went to Chelsea Piers to try out the Axius/Zeus Propulsion System (Episode 873), he took the opportunity to visit the High Line Park. The High Line used to be a railroad in Manhattan which originally ran at street level but was later elevated because of accidents. It became mainly a freight line and ran through a lot of the warehouses along the river dropping off freight along the way. It fell into desuetude and was going to be dismantled, until a group campaigned for its survival and it is now turned into an elevated park. Dick has taken some photos which you can find at Smugmug.
A Tonsure for Henry
Henry Laporte and his gang once tried the male pattern baldness look on themselves, and then went the whole hog and shaved their heads clean.
The Flowbee
Another self-help hair-cutter is the Flowbee that trims your hair and and sucks it away with a vacuum cleaner. Leo prefers his neighbour Felice who cuts Leo's and Henry's hair in her garage.
Zoetropes
Talk of Early Choices (Episode 841) reminded Mike Troiano of a visit to a furniture store in Jamaica which had the coolest lamp. It was a train lamp with a heat-activated zoetrope which, when the lamp lit up and warmed up, tricked your eyes into seeing images of a train moving through mountains and deserts. Now the coolest thing about this letter is how Early Choices, a toilet seat for young children, managed to trigger memory of a train lamp.
This in turn triggers Dick's memory of the train zoetropes he saw in his younger days and reminds Leo of Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope.
Dick had never heard about the connection between Henry Ford and Thomas Edison until Leo told him in Episode 870 about the latter's Last Breath. Then just the other day, Dick saw on PBS a programme on Thomas Edison and how Henry Ford moved all his stuff to the Henry Ford Museum. Leo knows all about what's hot and what's not.

Last Breath
The weirdest exhibit Leo has ever seen is at the Henry Ford Museum at Dearborn, Michigan: the test-tube containing Thomas Edison's Last Breath.
Wayne Lunsford from Arkansas, was listening to Episodes 831 and 832 and was surprised to hear about Pickles Gap which became the first TWiT Home Office. Wayne lives in nearby Conway which, apart from being the home of American Idol Chris Allen, is famous for being the town half-way between Toad Suck and Pickles Gap. He also offers a sightseeing tour of the neighbourhood for Dick and Leo, including the historical Pickles Gap Village and the Fudge Factory.

Terratrike Cruiser
Recumbent Tricycle
Link: Terratrike
After Dick and Leo mentioned the Terratrike website in Episode 815, Dick was asked if he would like to try one. Dick has no space for a tricycle in his apartment, and suggested that Terratrike get Leo to try it out. A Terratrike Cruiser was then delivered to Leo (which arrived during the TWiTLive show Maxwell's House - see Episode 829). It's a recumbent tricycle: two wheels in front, one at the back, front and rear derailleurs, disc brakes on the front wheels, 24-speed drivetrain, adjustable seat (aluminium frame with breathable mesh). Suitable for long and short distance riding. There are many more models to choose from, with optional accessories including trailers. Leo has fallen in love with the Cruiser and so it seems have Alex Lindsay and the TWiT staff.
Leo is going to kit out his trike with accessories, including a TWiT pennon and a horn recommended by kiwinerd. It's a loaner which Leo will return, but he has a feeling he will be buying one. At least Alex Lindsay is. As Dick says, it's going to be Pedal-uma.
No Value for Valeo
After his trusty Gophersport Anti-Burst Stability Ball retired from service, having been used day in day out for about 2 years, Leo went cheap and ordered another brand of fitness ball from Amazon, Valeo. Soon after he bought the new ones, there was an announcement that they were being recalled. Leo's new balls proved to be leaky very soon, and he will go back to the Gophersport again.
As it turned out, the Valeo was not only leaky. It burst while Leo was on TWiTLive last Tuesday.
Free of Charge?
Stefan from Norway is puzzled by the Samsung Charging Stations mentioned by Toyota Boy in Episode 818. "What's the point of a charging station if it's free of charge?" muses Stefan. "Ha-ha, those No-wegians," says Dick.

Fitness Ball Recall
After Leo's fitness ball started leaking, he decided to get a cheaper version which quickly became the subject of a recall. He's now reverted to his Gophersport Ultrafit Anti-Burst Stability Ball (Episode 322).
A Sump Pump for Dan Lueders
Back in Episode 737, Dan Lueders wrote to Dick about a power cut and the flooding of his basement. Listener Tom Westland suggests the Zoeller Home Guard Back Up Sump Pump, which does not require electricity and simply uses water pressure to work. Back in Episode 331, Dick talked about Reelsmart's No-Crank Garden Hose Reel, which rewinds the hose using water pressure.

Woot and eBay
Dick has been buying T-Shirts from Woot Shirt. Every day they come up with a new T-Shirt. They sell Woot wine as well. Dick is also looking out for eBay's Deal of the Day, and the other day got the Octopus 4-port USB Hub (one of which is a mini-USB).
Anti-Burst Fitness Ball
Leo may have an anti-burst fitness ball (Episode 322), but it's not leak-proof. He's getting replacements for his present one, which has been leaking air the last few days.
Meeting at A T & T
The SensorPlug (Episode 794) reminds Tobias Robinson of a meeting he had in a conference room at AT&T, where the lights kept going off. As soon as they headed off to the light switches, the lights came back by themselves. They finally worked out that the room was equipped with motion-sensitive lights, and for the rest of the meeting, they behaved like the expressive Italians, waving their arms and hands about while talking, to keep the lights on.
The Suggestion for "The Pod"
Dick wants to acknowledge that "The Pod" (Episode 793)was a suggestion from Eric McClintock.

Milestone Episodes
The Daily Giz Wiz has reached another milestone, Episode 800. Buzz Out Loud is however still ahead of DGW in terms of number of episodes. Dick plans to visit the TWiT Cottage for Episode 1000. Dick is very complimentary about Leo and his TWiT network. Leo has an overall plan, Dick thinks. Leo would love to know what it is.
The Amazing Criswell ...
... writes again, having been prompted by the biofeedback games covered by Dick in Episode 778. He/She asks if Dick and Leo have tried Wild Divine's BioFeedback System. Leo thinks it's a cool gadget and may cover it on a TTTT.

Frankly, My Dear
Dick braved the snow storm in New York to go to his local Barnes and Noble to see a presentation by Robert Osborne and Molly Haskell. Haskell has just written a book called "Frankly, My Dear: Gone With The Wind Revisited", with behind-the-scenes information on the making of the film, including actors and actresses who had been considered for roles in the film, such as Katherine Hepburn and Basil Rathbone.
The Test Of Time
Old movies don't always stand up to the test of time, in terms of visual effects production and acting or filming styles, as Leo found out with Kirk Douglas's The Strange Love of Martha Ives. But not Casablanca, which Dick always enjoys rewatching. Leo is waiting for a blu ray version of The Wizard of Oz, but for now he has to settle for a used DVD Deluxe Version.
New Shows on TWiT
Leo is gearing up for a new science show with Dr Kiki, for which Paul Minshall has made a theme. Meanwhile Sarah Lane and Martin Sargent have been doing This Week In Fun on TWiTLive (video available from odtv.me) which Leo might eventually put on a regular podcast feed.
Martin Sargent was responsible for getting Dick and Leo together. For Dick's account, see Episode 100.
More Respect for the Sea
Dick's story in Episode 773 of how he gained his respect for the sea reminded Peter Penny from Toronto of his own lesson. He was to go on a poker run on a cigarette boat and was warned that the boat was so fast that the wind could turn his eyelids inside out. Yeah, right, he thought, until it really happened to him.
For Dick's previous explanation of a poker run, check back at Episode 626.
iPhone PDF Reader
Peter Penny also wants to ask if Leo has any recommendation for a PDF reader on the iPhone. Leo wonders if Stanza can do it, since it's an ebook reader.

Seat Sucker
The SeaSucker would be perfect for attaching Leo to his fitness ball, and he could parade himself too on Butter and Eggs Day. It would be called the Seat Sucker. Dr Mark Sukoenig (eyedocmark) from the Chatroom chips in: If a psychic had a SeaSucker, it would be called a seersucker.
Wizneyland Guest
Leo has had his share of visitors at the TWiT Cottage while recording, and Dick has his first guest in his studio, Bob Butcher, an engineer on Metro North.
TWiT Cottage Plus
TWiT is expanding again, taking up another room upstairs. Dick calls it TWiT Cottage Plus.
Bill's Law
According to Dick's naval architect, if water is gushing into your boat through a one-inch hole, you need to drill a 2-inch hole in order to get the water out. The rule of thumb is to double the size of the hole.
Multi-Colour Sporks
Scott Kingsley (Chatroom handle: ibreakfortwit) loves the Daily Giz Wiz, except for Tuesdays. It's most unflattering when the Tricaster zooms in to find Leo under his desk. He suggests that Dick just give Leo multi-colour sporks to end his misery.
The Energy Detective
Dick and Leo have talked about the power monitor Kill A Watt and Kill A Watt PS before, most recently when a Canadian listener wrote in to say that it was available on loan from his local library in Ajax, Ontario (Epiosode 721). Scott has an alternative, which his library also lends out. It's The Energy Detective (TED) at theenergydetective.com.
A Gold Star for Dick
Dick wants to get a gold star (or whatever colour is available) for his icon in the IRC Chatroom, preferably with a royal crown and a sceptre. Darth Emma will be crowning or knighting Dick as a Mod.

Phobia
Dick has done his fair share of flashlights. He has a fear of running out of flashlights.
Jack Benny
Josh from Denver has just started reading Good Days And Mad by Dick, in which a brief mention was made of Jack Benny whom Dick met (and in Episodes 397 and 556). The Jack Benny Show was one of Josh's favourite old time radio shows, a lot of which Dick and Leo have talked about.
Another Phobia
Dick met Jack Benny on one of flights back from Los Angeles to New York while working on Match Game. During their conversation, Jack told a story about George Burns's fear of flying. Jack Benny had told Burns to look at the birds outside the plane which were also flying, just as they were. Burns's riposte was, "It's their job!"
Chatroom Mayhem
Someone in the chatroom was misbehaving during the recording of the show, and Leo was distracted by having to deal with it and banning him from the chatroom. At least that's his excuse for playing the Letters Jingle twice: not keeping his eyes on the ball, his 65cm diameter fitness ball.

Acoustic Research AW791 Headphones
Wireless Dolby Surround Sound Headphones
Link: Business Wire Article
The Base Station was AC powered, had connections for RCA jacks and optical cable input (optical cable with Toslink connectors provided), an Input Select switch to choose your audio input, and a choice of 3 channels for wireless transmission to avoid interference. The headphones themselves were powered by Nickel Metal Hydride batteries, which recharged themselves automatically when docked on the Base Station.
At the time, Acoustic Research was part of Recoton. Now it's part of Audiovox.
Although the product is only about 7 years old, it is ancient in terms of gadget years. See Episodes 120 and 420 for Dick and Leo's discussion on "gadget years".
Dolby Surround Sound Headphones Demo
For a demo of this type of headphones that Leo mention on the show, check out MacBreak Weekly Episode 23, the post-iPhone announcement episode in which people got a bit high with the iPhone and more.
Ventriloquist Johnson
The ventriloquist in The Two And Only whom Dick mentions is Jay Johnson.
Slimming Down with DGW
Aussie Mike, who met with Leo and his gang at the Sydney Airport on Leo's photography trip to Tasmania (see Episode 539), had some health problem which required him to slim down. He started his exercise with walking while listening to DGW, and that was all he could manage in the beginning. Gradually, he added other TWiT podcasts to his walk. He has lost a total of 40kg (88 pounds). A good TWiT diet.
