Here Comes the Letters Jingle
Rehash / Retrospective
A look at how the Letters Jingle came about. Like the Gravy Slogan, the idea started off with another pre-stolen idea, "We Get Letters" from the Perry Como Show, or you can call it a historical reference.
The Opening Intro is in honour of George's Wood's Scottish heritage, not Leo's lousy Scottish accent.
For those who want the karaoke version (more like an "a cappella" version) by Dick and Leo, see Episode 251. To get the "jingle for the letters jingle", go to Episode 266.

Finally, the Old Letters Jingle
Finally an answer to the old Letters Jingle riddle. Pete from Melbourne, Australia discovered DGW around Episode 120 and listened to archive episodes for 7 hours a day for several days in a row. He tells Dick and Leo that the old Letters Jingle was submitted by a Finn Heinrich Antonin, played from Episodes 151 to 160, and George Wood's debuted in Episode 166.
We Get Letters
Leo replays the Finnish letters jingle, and for good measure, plays the Ray Charles version of We Get Letters in the Perry Como Show.

Missing Toronto
Since the end of Call For Help, Leo has not seen Amber MacArthur, although Andy Walker and Sean Carruthers will come out to Vancouver for the filming of The Lab With Leo. Leo misses his Toronto friends.
Still In Search of the Old Letters Jingle
Another listener writes in to help Leo find the old letters jingle that Eric from Tallahassee wanted to hear again (Episode 285). He thinks it was done by a Swede and the jingle ended with a gong. Leo tries searching for Sweden, and ends up with visitsweden.com.
No, the fellow who did the old jingle was Finnish, and yes, the old jingle ended with a big finish (quoting Dick in Episode 156) !

Ed and Rory McMahon
A listener Rory McMahon likes the Finnish letters jingle (which most people didn't like). Ed McMahon, on the other hand, was once a guest on Match Game, and Dick had also met Johnny Carson, for 30 seconds. Another regular Match Game guest, Ethel Merman, was very nervous before her first appearance on Match Game.

Self-Destruct Button USB Hub
USB Hub/Computer Accessories
Link: übergizmo archives
Originally carried on www.geekstuff4u.com, a Japanese site. If you want a USB Hub with a feature that serves no useful purpose, like this blog, this gadget is for you. This unpowered USB Hub has a self-destruct button which you can activate only after a series of steps, including a using a security key. The snag is, the self-destruct button doesn't seem to destroy anything, but nobody knows that, and it's the threat that counts.
Watch the youtube video below for a step-by-step demonstration, complete with the box that the USB Hub comes in.
Netcasts You Love ...
... From People You Trust. The TWiT Network intro has changed after only 2 weeks, to switch from "podcasts" to "netcasts", after Leo's acceptance speech for the award "Podcaster of the Year".

Dick's Gadget Warehouse

The Budding Businessman
Dick wanted to be a writer but his father would have none of it and sent him to a business school, where Dick learned touch-typing, which ultimately helped his writing. Dick's career as a businessman was nipped in bud when Mad accepted his article.

A couple of guys looking for stuff
Leo searches for a letters jingle submission while Dick looks for the Perry Como "We Get Letters" song.
Finlandia
Leo plays a letters jingle submitted by Henrich Antonin, a fellow podcaster from Finland.
Loud Commercials
Bob Kay from New Hampshire explains why TV commercials always seem to sound louder (Episode 140). Leo is getting hate mail for putting ads on the show. He has toyed with the idea of paid subscription, but doesn't think it will succeed.
The song Dick has in mind is the theme from the "We Get Letters" segment on the Perry Como Show, when he did requests. Check out its entry in IMDb. Perry Como also released an album called "We Get Letters" in 1957, but it did not include the theme itself. See Wikipedia. The theme did make an appearance, however in the 1958 album "Saturday Night With Mr. C" as "We Get Letters/Dear Perry": See Wikipedia.
The lyrics go: "Letters, we get letters, we get stacks an' stacks of letters . . . Dear Perry . . . would you be so kind, to fill a request, and sing the song I like best?"
Leo plays a recording of the song in Episode 303.
The song was later adapted by Paul Shaffer as the CBS Mail Bag theme on the David Letterman Show.
