Bookkeeping
Dick tells a story of a raid by the FBI who wanted to look at the accounts of an organisation. The FBI asked the bookkeeper for the books. "Which set?" asked the bookkeeper. Leo is rushing to buy this Staples shredder, as he's received an ultimatum from Frederique: "Pay tax, or give me a shredder."
Out With the Old
Leo feels certain that there was a custom in New York or Wall Street when at the end of the year people would throw their old desk calendars out of the windows. No. San Francisco maybe. No. The general consensus of the Chatroom is Leo is losing his marbles.
But the Chatroom finally saves the day for Leo, and finds an article by Steve Rubenstein in the San Francisco Chronicle "Mundane 1999 Goes Out the Windows".
iPod Touch Stand
Andy Weight has found a much cheaper stand for the iPod Touch. The Touch comes with its own clear plastic stand. No need for the iFlyz (Episode 783), the In Your Face Viewbase (Episode 802), or the business card holder used as a make-shift stand. For his contribution, Andy gets a shout-out for his kids Joshua and Oliver who are also DGW fans.

A Wireless Toaster
Karen Toast Conger, of ToastFloats, used to work for WatchGuard, a network security devices company. As a parting gift, she was given a very special toaster. Her colleagues bought her a Cuisinart toaster, took it apart, and put a WatchGuard Firebox X Edge wireless router into it. A wireless router, security device, and a toaster.

New GizWiz Picture/Album Art
Leo's TWiT website is getting a mini facelift. All the album art for the TWiT podcasts has a new look, including the one for DGW. At the same time, Dick's website is getting a new look, too. The home page of GizWizBiz.com is now the page for the gadgets for the current month, which is a good idea. Dick's write-ups for old DGW episodes are now easier to get to. Check it out. But previous links on this blog to Dick's write-ups on DGW gadgets may have to be changed in due course.

Personal Taser C2
Taser
Link: Taser
A self-defence device. The Taser C2 transmits electrical pulses into the
body affecting the sensory and motor functions of the peripheral
nervous system. The energy can penetrate up to two cumulative inches of
clothing.
Peter Shankman of Geek Factory and PRDifferently volunteered to be tasered by the C2 at CES 2007. Watch the video here (expletives present).
Yoshi once also agreed to be tasered (by a stronger police version) on the Screensavers. He ended up giggling.
Dick also talks about a couple of other discoveries at CES 2007:
Philips Ambilight
Philips is making LCD TVs with a built-in lamp which gives out an ambient backlight, called Ambilight, that changes colour according to the colours of the screen display.
Sharp 108" LCD TV
Sharp shows off a 108" LCS screen at CES. Picture from www.pocket-lint.co.uk.
TWiT Merchandise
Scott Jordan of Scott-E-Vest has made merchandise for Leo with the TWiT logo. It will be sold on Think Geek.
Vegware
Ian from the UK, in response to Leo's spork (Episode 182), introduces us to the website www.vegware.co.uk for biodegradable cutlery made of potato starch.
Packing Up
This reminds Dick of packing peanuts made of cornstarch which dissolves in water and can be disposed of in the sink, such as those offered by Uline.

Listening Habits
Listeners have written in about how they listen to DGW. Some in the morning to start the day. Some reserve it for their lunch time, something to look forward to.
Foolproof against Identity Theft
Dick has a great way of preventing identity theft by stopping people from snooping into his bank statements and other personal documents, in addition to shredding them. He calls in aid of his dog.
