Samsung NC20
Netbook
Link: Samsung
These days Leo goes through his netbooks the same way he goes through his netcasts - lots of them. After his Asus Eee PC (Episode 447) and MSI Wind (Episode 762), the latest addition to Leo's line of netbooks is the Samsung NC20, with the following specs:
- VIA Nano ultra low voltage CPU (1.3GHz)
- 12.1-inch, WVGA (1280 x 800) glossy display
- 97% full-size keyboard
- Integrated 1.3MP webcam
- 160GB 5400rpm hard drive
- 1GB DDR2 memory
- Wifi b/g, bluetooth
- 3 USB ports, an SD card slot
- 11.5" x 8.5" x 1.2" and 3.3 lbs
- 6-cell Lithium Ion battery (5900 mAh)
- Windows XP Home
Leo likes the Samsung NC20 (having made quite a number of upgrades), and hulu plays fine on it. For major reviews of the Samsung NC20 on the web, check out the links on TestSeek.
The First Letters Jingle: An Encore
Andrew Rodriguez welcomes Leo home, and wants to remind everyone of the very first Letters Jingle. He is good enough to attach the jingle to his email. Dick and Leo can't remember who was responsible for it.
It's the Finnish Letters Jingle, by Henrich Antonin from Finland. Billed by Dick as the jingle with the "big finish", it was played from Episodes 151 to 160, and superseded by George Wood's Letters Jingle in Episode 166.

The Five Boroughs of New York
Dick and Leo discuss what is a "borough" in New York. Find out a bit more from Wikipedia.
Landing on the Hudson River
Dick was alerted to the landing by Chesley Sullenberger of the US Airways jet on the Hudson River, but was advised that boat owners should not go down the river to where the jet landed. So Dick doesn't have photos of the landing for us, but he has photos of the Hudson 24 hours after the landing! Almost as good. See Dick's photos on smugmug.
Butter and Margarine
Leo tries to lure Dick to this year's Butter and Eggs Day at Petaluma, on Saturday, 25 April 2009, with Petaluma's Cutest Little Chick. Leo explains again how the perpetual parade works. Everyone in town will be in the parade, except Leo, as he has to do the radio show. Jennifer will be in it, doing her zumba class. The theme of this year's 28th Annual Parade is "Recycle, Reuse, Remember".
The Fragrance of Petaluma
Two times of the year, in the spring and the fall, Petaluma has a fragrance pervading the town. It's when the farmers lay down the fertilisers. If you can't get enough of Petaluma talk by Dick and Leo, try the Petaluma Ristorante in Manhattan.
Mad In Your Eye
Dick has uncovered a case of trade paperbacks "Here's Mad In Your Eye". Available at BuyMadStuff.
One used to have to keep scrolling down on Dick's website to see all his stuff. With a little help from Ludwik and GoToMeeting, Dick has finally given his stuff its own pages.
Nerdy Pleasure
Listener Andrew started watching Leo on ZDTV back in his high school days, when it was a nerdy pleasure for him. A few years ago he was glad to find Leo's new podcasting empire. He has recently discovered a gadget which is exactly what he has for a long time been hoping for and would very much like Leo to do a review of it. It's the Car Camera Voyager Pro with GPS Logger from Brick House Security. It has an internal "event" sensor for detecting speed, braking, acceleration and impact. It constantly records a video, with GPS logging, on to an SD card, and will retain 10 seconds prior to and 30 seconds after an "event". Plug the SD card into a computer and you can watch the video with your car's GPS location.
Another Record
Dick and Leo are enjoying themselves in this recording session. Yesterday was a half-hour show, and today, at 33:55, this is the longest episode of DGW.

Sharp Dial Master 100 Auto-Dialer EL6230
Calculator/Electronic Phonebook/Dialer
Link Amazon
This is the second gadget donated by a listener and accepted by Dick into the hallowed grounds of the Gadget Warehouse. Prompted by the PhoneMate Just In Case Beeper (Episode 540), listener Ed Wunder offered the Sharp Dial Master 100 EL6230 to Dick, which was small enough for Dick to find room for it in the Warehouse.
Ed Wunder bought it from K-Mart 20 years ago for $100. It was a calculator, address book (for 100 contacts) and auto-dialer. The lid flipped down to reveal the keypad. There was even a secret compartment to hold notes which your could password-protect. At the back of the gadget was the speaker which you would hold near a phone for its auto-dialing function.
It may still be available on AudioBlowouts, and Amazon.
Match Game Cards
There are still 6 sets of those left. Your last chance to get one.
DGW Fix
Kory Klimoski was listening to Episode 567 on his way to work in which Dick and Leo discussed the IRS and the FBI, so he called DEA. DGW is like crack to Kory. He must have his daily fix, even if it makes him spend all his hard-earned money. Speaking of audible crack, Kory recommends the Aubrey series by Pat O'Brian.

Leo wants to know if the SoupySales on Twitter, who is profane and very funny, is the Soupy Sales. Dick is now on Twitter as well. Follow him at thegizwiz on Twitter, or follow Alfred E Neuman on Twitter.

Brand New Monday Jingle
It's a brand new week and a brand new day and a brand new Monday Jingle, from Dan Lueders again, which has incorporated Leo's Monday ditty, their occasional slogan "The worse your life is, the better we sound" and even the Gravy Slogan.
Rock My Teeth
Patrick Warn from Georgia, Vermont writes about Rock My Teeth - a musical tooth-whitening system. Attach the whitening kit to your iPod and the music, Professor Bocelli claims, helps line up the peroxide molecules to make it easier for them to penetrate through the enamel into the dentin to whiten the teeth. Watch the video here. Dick thinks the HydraBrush (Episodes 226, 480) - though Dick thinks it's called Turbo Brush - makes a lot more sense.
Cotati Accordion Festival
Dick is joing Leo at TWiTLive on Friday 20 June 2008, and Dick has had difficulty getting a room at the local hotels, because that weekend is the Cotati Accordion Festival. Dick manages to book himself a 2-night package at the Metro Cafe and Hotel, one of Leo's favourites. Kim from Wild Planet is going to demonstrate their Christmas toys and she'll come dressed as an elf.

44 Years of Fold-Ins
Al Jaffee has been doing the Mad Fold-Ins since June 1964, following Playboy's Fold-Outs. He still does it, and does it on a hard, flat board, and has never needed to actually fold the artwork to see the result.
For the recent New York Times interview and article on Al Jaffee, click here.
The NY Times has also reproduced some of the fold-ins over the last 44 years. You can try your hand at the fold-ins yourself to get the answers to the questions posed. Don't miss out on the interactive fold-ins.

The device was called the HP35 because it had 35 buttons. 35 years on, HP releases a modern version of it, the HP35s.
Steve Wozniak went to work for HP on the HP35. Leo thinks that Steve Jobs sold his Volkswagen mini-van, and Steve Wozniak sold his HP35, to fund the development of the Apple I.
Warehouse Jingle, Finally!
The Gadget Warehouse Jingle, a collaboration by George Wood from Edinburgh and Paul Minshall from Vancouver, DGW's favourite jingle writers, is finally aired. Listen to it on Paul Minshall's blog (where he also explains the inspiration for the jingle).
NBC Programming
George Gray from Richmond, Virginia (who wrote about the DVD Rewinder in Episode 172) says that the "cheesy programmer" for NBC (Episode 398) was Fred Silverman, who was responsible for such programmes as Super Train, BJ and the Bear, Susan Anton and Sheriff Lobo. Prior to NBC, Silverman had turned ABC around.

Okidata Dot Matrix Printers
The Okidata 92 (Episode 280) has generated a ton of emails. Eric points out that dot matric printers are still commonly used in banks and credit unions, as they can produce carbon copies. Mark from Twin Lake, Michigan, says dot matrix printouts last forever. Zach from Valley View, Texas says they are definitely still in use, and the last time he saw one in use was in 2004.
Leo remembers the IBM Selectric Ball Typewriters, and wants a giant ball (Delegate 96). The Match Game used to use one of those giant ball typewriters to type out cards for Gene Rayburn.
Inflation Calculator
Greg notes that the $821 Dick paid for his Okidata set in 1984 would be equivalent to $1,625 now, in 2007, according to the Inflation Calculator of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. His family purchased a Zenith 25" TV for $999 in 1968, which would be $5,905 today. Leo used to get $5 for pocket money, and that's what Henry gets as well!
