Checkmate Appetite Intake Controller
Dieting Gadget
Link: CheckMate Diet
The Checkmate Appetite intake Controller is essentially a timer which buzzes in 30 seconds (or 60 seconds, if you choose) intervals. The idea is to get you to eat more slowly and chew your food properly (30 seconds chewing time) to give the body enough time to "register" feeling full. Made by Buzztronics, who made the GizWizBiz USB Smart Button.

An Old Letter
A listener wrote in some time ago (after Episode 379, the CardioChek), making the observation that there was Leo on his live video feed, sitting in front of the mic for 3 hours doing nothing, and then there was Dick in his apartment opening packages, putting his fingers into devices, bleeding himself and checking his cholesterol.

GizWizBiz USB Smart Button
Steve Miller, of Westerville, Ohio, a bit of a gadget hound himself (see Episodes 279, 376), is one of the 17 people who bought Dick's USB Smart Button, which has freed his hard drive of the space previously necessary for Dick's web address! Although he already had a Dysan vacuum, he still bought the Roomba (mentioned in Episode 451) which is excellent for going under the bed.

What is also being promised is a PC Connectivity Kit which will connect the device to the PC for editing and printing (Windows only). Smartphones (Blackberry, Treo, Pocket PC) are not supported but are again in the works.
A similar product covered by Dick a long time ago is the Cellstik (Episode 27) which has similar functions (and limitations). Dick explains on the show that an adapter/tip he has been waiting for from Cellstik has yet to be made. Whether the Backup Pal will suffer the same fate remains to be seen.

Turn-The-Tables-Tuesday
Leo's new Blackberry Curve 8320 (Episode 422) does not come with GPS, so he goes straight to Crackberry to get the Freedom Keychain GPS, or mini GPS, a bluetooth GPS device that connects to portable devices such as PDA, laptops and cellphones including Blackberry phones via Bluetooth Version 2.0 Class II, within a range of 10m. It is not bundled with any software, but is intended to work with the software that comes with, or can be downloaded for, your individual portable device, such as Google Maps or Blackberry Maps. Having a separate GPS module also means less drain on the battery of your portable device. It comes with a car charger cable and a USB cable for charging the battery.
It uses the new SiRF Star III chipset, with 20 channels "All-In-View" Tracking. It also loads up quickly, in about 20 seconds on his Blackberry Curve 8320.

Henry Laporte has followed Leo's footsteps by being featured in the latest issue of Mad, in an article on the game show 1 vs 100. That gets Dick and Leo on to their favourite subject, game shows. For the story on Leo's appearance in Mad, see Episode 61.
