SmartSwipe
Security for Online Shopping
Link: smartswipe.ca
According to NetSecure, although traditional SSL encrypts the data in transit from the web browser on your computer to the secure server of the e-commerce site, hackers may still be able to access the information while it's on your computer or its memory before the data is encrypted. SmartSwipe uses a technology called Dynamic SSL, which interacts with traditional SSL. It encrypts the data at the SmartSwipe hardware itself and initiates the SSL key negotiation from SmartSwipe (and not from the personal computer), so that the encryption is extended further back to the earlier point in time where the information is read from the credit card. SmartSwipe works with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and JBC, but only on Windows XP and Vista and on Internet Explorer. Those who are interested in the security side of the technology may want to read up on NetSecure's documentation on Dynamic SSL to see if their claims are made out. Dell is now selling SmartSwipe as an accessory.

Also, his daughter has just been accepted into the San Francisco Institute of Art and they may pay a visit to the TWiT Cottage while in the neighbourhood. Leo will be ready with his TWiT Mat.

Dick and Leo are shy at parties, like Johnny Carson. So was Ethel Merman when she first appeared on Match Game (original stories in Episode 167). The only thing that separate Dick and Leo from them is talent.
From Comic Books To Television
David Sexton of New Jersey (who suggested the Spoon Sisters Wire Identification Labels to Dick, Episode 283) writes in about the Monster HD channel on Cable Satellite, and a documentary called "From Comic Books To Television" which talked about EC Comics, Bill Gaines and his dislike of the Comics Code.
David Sexton wonders if Bill Gaines ever considered reviving Tales from the Crypt, and whether anyone has written a biography of him. New York Times Review
The New York Times review of Dick's book Good Days and Mad had some wonderful things to say about it, except that the reviewer thought that Dick talked an awful lot about himself. Of course no one should do that in an autobiography.
A Catamaran for Leo
Steve Castelli from Buffalo, New York suggests a sail boat for Leo, a catamaran with a solar motor. Unfortunately Leo has gone off the idea of yachting, until he gets the Totino account. For the time being, he'll get a dinghy which he will sail on the local tidal slew, or a kayak for Jennifer.
